into oblivion?
Perhaps he stood, not for fear.
In fact, he may be hoping
a friendly hand would reach him.

Why else would he be staring at a murderous river raging?

Would you walk? Away that is.
If you saw him, a stranger standing
at the edge of his world,
or would you extend a hand and call?

Will he turn? His shoulders show relief,
that finally, he was seen?
