Worn

Worn
by day’s rise and day’s fall
the whispering, sinister wind
stealing fleck by fleck the sand
upon which the castle built
its timber decaying over time
fiber by fiber weakened
unable to take the teasing of rain
washed away, crumbling as if a simple heap
against the sea’s battering
an old squabble hung on
as if by a thread, the ties of bond
so as the evening falls once more
evermore the age shows
worn as though by life itself
nothing more to show
no more reason to gloat
worn as if by the rain
the wind and the sun
worn
life
day by day
little by little
till with Earth we blend once more.
